Les Hirondelles is a small family run buisness in the heart of the Corbieres.
We are ideally placed for holidays of all descripitions and for all seasons.
You will find us in a small village at the foot of the Alaric Mountains surrounded by vineyards and the wilderness of the garrigue. A wonderful place to explore by foot, bike, on horseback or trail bike. A great place for nature lovers with its wild orchids and other flora and fauna.
However we are only 30 minutes drive from the historic city of Carcassonne, the largest intact medieval city in Eurpoe , a world heritage site.
Carcassonne also boasts a great festival during the months of July and August featuring opera, theatre music and much more. Previous performers include Sting, Bob Dylan Simple Minds the opera Carmen and The Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
The canal due Midi runs through the region and is 15 minuets drive away, this too is a world heritage site. The whole route from Toulouse to the Mediterranean at Cap D’Agde is pathed and great for walking and cycling along. Boat trips are also available.
We are also only 40 minuets drive from the long sandy beaches of the warm Mediterranean sea.
The mountains of the Pyrenees are about an hours drive away with the Spanish border only an hour and a half away.
Closer to home there is the medieval village of Lagrasse with its abbey, river and resturants.
We are in middle of the Cathar region and are therefore surrounded by ancient Cathar castles and mysteries.
If you don’t feel like the med there are many local lakes and rivers to swim, picnic and cool off.
The area comes alive in the spring and summer with every village having its own festivals and events. From the courgette to the cassoulet, all are celebrated here.
However the autumn and winter too have their surprises from the hustle and bustle of the grape-picking and wine making, to the winter festivals such as the Jazz festival in Conillac Corbieres.
The exploring, wine tasting and regional gastronomy are abundant throughout all the year.
So as you can see there is something for everyone, from sun-seekers to history buffs and treasure hunters.
